Committing to better, together
What I stand for
This is more than responsible tourism. I’m here to foster global citizenship through an honest exploration of social inequity.
Innovation
We have the opportunity to disrupt systems of old and reinvest in the capacity of youth and host communities alike. Just because we haven’t, doesn’t mean we can’t.
Decolonization
Socially just programs which deconstruct internalized imperialism and build enduring cross-cultural partnerships.
Integration
I’m energized by capturing the momentum from participants’ re-entry to create a new generation of leaders. Youth who see patterns in oppression and concrete ways to connect their experiences abroad to action at home.
Cross-pollination
There is no shortage of groundbreaking approaches in the world. Impactful programs allow us to learn from local innovators, share tools, and connect change-makers from around the globe.
Complexity
We often see programs which reflect the expectations participants have regarding the Global South rather than challenging them. Diversifying curricula to connect participants to myriad identities and lived experiences allows for deeper understandings of power, inequality, and the complexity of humankind.
Critical empathy
Activating critical empathy helps students draw connections between what they are experiencing abroad and parallels within their local communities. It comes with calls to action, avenues forward, and a deeper understanding of the structural inequalities that impact communities globally.
